Design Build Fly
Welcome to the Olin College Design-Build-Fly Team Crowdfunding Campaign!
Founded in 2017, we are a team of undergraduate students that develop highly-specialized electric RC aircraft for the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Design-Build-Fly competition. In our first year of competition, we gained recognition as the 11th place finisher nationally in Wichita, Kansas.
Team members gain experience through a variety of tasks, while building skills in mechanical design, composite fabrication, simulation, aerodynamic studies, actuation, part selection, shop-based fabrication, team collaboration, communication, RC flight, and more.
This year's competition involves optimizing for minimum wing span and take off distance, while maximizing speed and payload. There are a few new design challenges this year, including remotely-triggered unfolding and locking wings, midair store release, and takeoff from an inclined plane. By contributing to this project, you contribute to a growing team of engineers who develop confidence and autonomy in their mechanical and electrical designs, as well as a great background in flight concepts and analysis.
We hope to take more team members than ever this year to the national competition in Arizona, and your funds will help us achieve that in addition to providing the finances needed to build a more capable, competitive airplane.
