Olin Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (OlinUROP)
What is UROP?
Olin is piloting a new undergraduate research opportunities program this summer. Similar to programs at other institutions, the Olin UROP program will support students with an interest in working on research activities throughout the year. The projects can range from individual, team-based or faculty-led research programs. As we launch the pilot program, we are raising seed funding from alumni, parents and friends, as well as corporate sponsors, private foundations and government programs. We are also speaking with companies about specific research projects that might be a fit for UROP, enabling our undergraduate students to make an impact on real-world research initiatives.
Seed funding is critically important to launch a UROP program at Olin. While we anticipate identifying corporate research initiatives, funding from alumni, parents and friends will play an important role in supporting faculty and student-led projects. Your support will go towards student stipends, faculty summer support, materials and supplies. Most importantly, your generosity will pave the way for unique, interdisciplinary research opportunities for Olin undergrads to explore new and interesting areas of engineering, math, design, humanities, science and more. For example, several of our faculty are hoping to work with Olin students this summer in such diverse areas as creating apps for people who are blind to better navigate new environments, redesigning armor for a non-profit that teaches self-defense classes for marginalized communities, researching science literacy and information literacy, and research focused on air pollutants in near-roadway and near-airport communities. Your gift to the UROP fund will enable projects like these to happen in the summer of 2017. Please join us today in enriching the research experiences of Olin undergraduates by clicking "DONATE NOW"! Thank you.
